GEORGE WATTS MONTESSORI PTA

The PTA offers a range of programs designed to support the whole family, and the Backpack Buddies program stands as our largest initiative of the bunch. Providing weekend food packages to more than 50 students experiencing food insecurity, Backpack Buddies is run with support from the school's PTA and community volunteers, supplying shelf-safe meals and nutrition to children in need. Volunteers manage grocery runs, food packing, and distribution using community donations—powering the backbone of our efforts to make sure every Watts child has what they need to thrive.

This committee works to beautify the school grounds, bringing together a team of parents, students and staff several times a year for volunteer Grounds Work Days. Volunteers do a wide range of work on these days, such as weeding, tilling, planting, raking, trimming, sweeping and picking up litter. Helpers of all ages are welcome and encouraged to join in!

A sampling of the Edible Garden's fruits & vegetables include strawberries, figs, grapes, tomatoes, persimmons, cucumbers, squash, greens, peppers, carrots, peas, and herbs.

The Equity and Advocacy Committee mobilizes Watts families around the priorities that matter most to our students, teachers, and community — from higher teacher pay and budget transparency to reliable transportation, quality special education services, and strong afterschool programs. Members organize parents to make calls, sign petitions, and participate in days of action, while also hosting forums that give families and educators a voice on the issues shaping our school.

From family movie nights under the stars to celebrating Heritage Months to lacing up for Wheels rollerskating, the Events Committee is behind the fun that brings our Watts community together all year long. Members dream up, plan, and pull off the gatherings that make Watts feel like more than just a school — it's a community.

The Spring Carnival is the biggest event of the Watts year, and the Carnival Committee is the crew that makes it happen. Bringing together games, music, food, and community every year, this committee coordinates everything from sponsors and raffle prizes to volunteers and setup, turning a Saturday morning into one of our school's most beloved traditions. This committee raises the majority of funds that support the PTA’s programs and initiatives that enrich our children’s academic experience and help build community in our school. Funds are used in a wide variety of ways, from supporting our community's diverse heritage, to funding cultural activities during the school-day for all students, to purchasing library books and computers for the media center, to playground improvements and more.  Annual Fundraisers include the Annual Fund Drive, Dine Out for Watts, and the George Watts Book Fair.
